Little Bridger, who was left with 90 stitches, stood between his sister and the charging dog in Wyoming, USA. He later said: “If someone had to die, I thought it should be me”

Bridger saved his little sister’s life.

A brave six-year-old needed 90 stitches after standing between his little sister and a charging dog, saving her life.

The vicious animal bit little Bridger several times across the face and head, before he got up, grabbed his sister’s hand and ran with her to safety.

He later said: “If someone had to die, I thought it should be me.”

The tot, who is a huge science fan, knew he needed to step in front of his young sibling, who was unhurt in the horrific dog atack.

He was rushed to hospital in Wyoming, USA, where he was looked after by a plastic surgeon.

Bridger grabbed his sister’s hand and ran

His proud aunt Nicole Walker shared the boy’s ordeal on Instagram sharing photos of him and his little sister before and after the incident, on Thursday.

She said: “On July 9, my six-year-old nephew Bridger saved his little sister’s life by standing between her and a charging dog.

“After getting bit several times on the face and head, he grabbed his sister’s hand and ran with her to keep her safe

“He later said, ‘If someone had to die, I thought it should be me’.”

He needed 90 stitches

She later added that the boy is recovering at home and is already trying to smile.

“His wounds are looking so much better! He’s in great spirits, and his awesome personality is intact.

“He can’t smile too widely yet but he was grinning as I read some of your comments to him.”

His story has been shared on social media with many well-wishes offering donations, which his parents have said would be better directed to a veterans’ charities Mission 22 or Wounded Warrior Project in Bridger’s honour.

His aunt also updated concerned people with information on the dog involved in the attack.

She said: “The dog’s owners are really great people who have been nothing but kind to Bridger and his family.

He is recovering at home

“We feel no resentment toward them at all, and – if anything – there’s only been an increase of love between our families as a result of this incident.

“We love our brave boy and want all the other superheroes to know about this latest hero who joined their ranks,” tagging the cast of superheroes from the movies including Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jnr, Mark Ruffalo and Chris Evans.

Mark Ruffalo who played the Hulk told Bridger: “People who put the well beings of others in front of themselves are the most heroic and thoughtful people I know.

“I truly respect and admire your courage and your heart.

“Real courage isn’t dominating people or fighting against people or walking around like a tough guy. Real courage is knowing what is right to do and doing it even when it might end up hurting you somehow.”
